Major Shipping Container Manufacturer Appoints New CEO

Maersk Container Industry is looking to continue their recent upswing in business by appointing seasoned manufacturing executive Sean S. Fitzgerald to the position of Chief Executive Officer. At the start of 2018, Fitzgerald will begin his tenure at Maersk, which manufactures and develops refrigerated and dry containers for intermodal shipping, including the Star Cool refrigeration system.

Fitzgerald’s Credentials

  • Education: Fitzgerald is an MBA degree holder from J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil engineering at the U.S. Military Academy
  • From 2014 to present, Fitzgerald has served as President of Joy Global China, where he led the building of eight Chinese factories
  • Before Joy Global, he was Regional Vice President of Joy Mining Machinery, where he spearheaded the creation of thirteen plants across the Americas
  • 10 years’ experience as a General Electric executive

Fitzgerald’s Role at Maersk

Fitzgerald’s role will be to direct the company’s overall strategy, operations, and its 5,000+ employees in China, Chile, and Denmark. The aim for the company is to continue their streak of profitability after surviving several lean years in an extremely competitive industry.

Soren Toft, Chairman of the Maersk Container Industry endorsed Fitzgerald’s talents and set the tone for what they expect from the executive by saying: “Sean’s proven track record driving production intensive businesses to profitability and market leadership makes him the ideal leader to spearhead Maersk Container Industry towards further market expansion, technology development, and efficient operations.”

On his new position, Fitzgerald stated “I look forward to leverage my experience in heavy equipment manufacturing to build on the company’s strong position in the market. Moving ahead, we will aim to further develop Maersk Container Industry as a profitable company that offers innovative, state-of-the-art container equipment and technology to its many customers.”
